About Amanda Dudley

Amanda Dudley qualified from Chelsea School of Art in 1987. She is a practicing and exhibiting Artist. In 1995 she qualified in Aromatherapy and massage and had her own practice until 2007, after which she moved full time to her Art Therapy practice. In 2006 she qualified from the University of Hertfordshire with a postgraduate Masters Degree in Art Therapy.

Amanda is a member of the Health Professions Council (HPC), the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). She works with adults, children and families, offering individual and group sessions. She also works as a freelance Art Therapist in schools and has a private practice in the Garden Studio located in Enfield. She is a BAAT approved supervisor.

Last year Amanda co-founded the Art Therapy Company, a non-profit arts organisation. This began as a response to the high need and low funding in schools and the community at large and offers creative initiatives that work with social, emotional and community concerns.

Amanda is an international visiting lecturer at the Terapia School for Child Integrative Psychotherapy Studies in London and the Hellenic Group Analytic Society in Athens. She is experienced in delivering training and workshops to the public, students and professionals. She has connections with St. Luke’s Hospice in Basildon, where she facilitated a family therapy workshop in 2011 and is currently awaiting funding for an artist’s residency at the hospice.

To date Amanda has worked in 7 schools in North, South and East London and Hertfordshire. She is experienced in setting up, delivering and maintaining art therapy as an in-school service. She has worked with children with complex needs and chaotic family backgrounds who may not ordinarily find their way to statutory counselling or therapy services such as CAMHS.

She has worked with these issues to provide a safe framework for therapy, supported by careful monitoring and evaluation and a strong understanding of child protection issues and codes of ethics. Liaising with families, relevant school staff and external agencies, she works creatively, flexibly and sensitively to offer a confidential and safe space within which both children and adults have been able to bring their concerns for exploration.

In schools, Amanda works closely with families, school networks and external services in order to offer children the best possible opportunity to develop and thrive. She uses a psychodynamic framework whilst remaining flexible in order to meet the needs of the individuals and the environment.

Art-making remains central to all her work. She offers a rich variety of media to enable attendees to explore, express and progress from traumatic life experiences that impinge upon their ability to think, develop and thrive.
